Boeing to set up C-17 facility at Hindon

The U.S. government has awarded Boeing a contract worth over USD 21 million for the design and construction of ‘Beddown Infrastructure Facilities’ for the C-17 aircraft ordered by the Indian Air Force, to be located at its Hindon base, near New Delhi.

The IAF has ordered ten C-17 heavy lift transport aircraft, of which the first is expected to arrive in India by June next year. This first aircraft recently underwent its major body join at Boeing’s Long Beach facility.

Beddown infrastructure is a type of facility that is specific to a particular aircraft type at a particular base. This is the first of two phases of construction. The current phase is expected to be executed by 2013. The schedule of the contract, with an estimated completion date of December 31, 2014, is likely to be tweaked after the addition of the second phase to the contract.
