What’s the deal with 61 Cavalry?

61 CavJournalist Man Aman Chhina has an intriguing post on his blog Reveille, which looks at the participation of members of the only horsed cavalry regiment in the world, in a polo match with Pakistan in China last week.

Chhina’s post raises three issues in terms of the context of the match with Pakistan, firstly looking at it in the context of the tensions with Pakistan on the border.

Secondly, Chhina points to an ongoing court of inquiry over a brawl that took place in the unit, over which an FIR has been registered.

And finally, Chhina raises questions over affiliation, recognition and administration with respect to the Indian Polo Association and the application of the RTI Act.

THE CAVALRY UNIT BE TRANSFERRED TO IMA OTS OR OTHER OFFICERS TRAINING INSTITUTES AND OFFICERS AND MEN CONVERTED INTO A PARACHUTE BATTALLIONTRAINED FOR HIGH ALTITUDE OPERATIONS . THE DELHI POLICE BE HANDED OVER THE CEREMONIAL GUARD OF RASTRAPATI BHAVAN . THE TAXPAYERS MONEY CANNOT BE  SQUANDERED FOR WASTEFUL TAMASHAS
