Update: Sri Lankan vessel goes down

The Sri Lankan fishing vessel Win Marine has gone down in the Bay of Bengal on Friday around midnight with three crew members.

As reported earlier by StratPost, the vessel was under guard of Indian Naval ships in the Bay of Bengal and arrested for intruding into the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) as well as for taking captive two Indian Coast Guard. At the time, the Indian Navy was unable to secure the ship or attach a tow because of bad weather and rough seas. The vessel was to be taken to Visakhapatnam.

The INS Rajput was in the vicinity and attempted to render assistance to the Win Marine but was unable to launch a boat in the waters due to the stormy weather conditions. The Rajput attempted to search for survivors with searchlights for several hours but was unable to find any.

Naval sources say two of the five-member crew had been earlier transferred to an Indian Naval Ship.
