Northrop Grumman Corporation plans to show-off its intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) systems ‘including airborne early warning and control systems for maritime reconnaissance, fire control radars and unmanned aerial vehicles’, at Aero India 2011 in Bangalore, next week.

On a specific request from the Seychelles, Defense Minister AK Antony has agreed to provide one new Dornier and two Chetak helicopters from the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for maritime surveillance at the earliest.

IAF sources confirmed that the aircraft, which is competing with the Russian Mi-28 for the IAF’s tender for 22 attack helicopters, has already completed trials in Jaisalmer and is currently undergoing high altitude flight and maneuverability demonstrations at Leh.

The Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Pinchas Buchris is to arrive in India on Monday to hold meetings on Tuesday with officials from the Indian Ministry of Defense and security establishment.

IAI demonstrated the capabilities of the aircraft in Brazil under ‘challenging, unpredictable’ weather conditions during the tests conducted by Brazilian police last week for operations related to ‘border security, and smuggling, natural resource theft, and drug trafficking concerns’.

He said this while briefing the press on the second day of Aero India 2009, when he also indicated the economic downturn would have little or no effect on the defense industry.
