India opens bids for VSHORAD tender

The Indian Ministry of Defense has opened bids for the tri-service purchase of Very Short Range Air Defense (VSHORAD) systems. The initial purchase of 5185 units is expected to be worth USD 5.8 billion (INR 26,000 crore).

India tests Agni 1

A statement issued by the Ministry of Defense said the launch took place at 1020 hours local time and that ‘the missile followed the trajectory in a copybook style and reached the designated target in the Bay of Bengal’.

New runway at IAF Gwalior

The Gwalior Air Base of the India Air Force (IAF) became the first IAF base to get a second operational runway, parallel to the first, on Wednesday. Air Marshal GS Kochar, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Air Command inaugurated the second runway at Gwalior which also inducted the Sukhoi-30 MKI aircraft on Wednesday.

Antony at ASEAN

The Indian Defence Minister Arackaparambil Kurian Antony on Tuesday called for the adoption of ‘cooperative approaches’ for ensuring the security of sea lanes in the Asia-Pacific Region, in his address to the first ASEAN Plus Eight Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) in Hanoi in Vietnam.

GE 414 picked for LCA

The Price Negotiating Committee for the Alternate Engine of the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft Mk-2 issued a statement on Thursday, saying that it had finalized the Comparative Statement of Tenders. “After evaluation and acceptance of the Technical offer provided by both Eurojet and GE Aviation, the commercial quotes were compared in detail and GE Aviation was declared as the lowest bidder,” said the statement.
