While the F/A-18 Super Hornet is being offered for the Indian Navy’s carrier-borne fighter jet requirement, it is also a candidate, along with the F-15, for Boeing’s offer for the Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter requirement.
The IAF currently operates four types of fighter aircraft of Russian origin and two western fighter models, with a third — the Rafale — expected to be added to the fleet by September 2019.
Boeing and Airbus will compete in a new IAF tender for tanker aircraft being conducted for the 3rd time – this time without a Russian bid. Airbus had won both the earlier tenders that were later withdrawn.
Pratyush Kumar, President of Boeing India, welcomes visitors to Aero India 2017 and describes their offer of the KC-46 tanker and the F/A-18 Super Hornet to India.
Boeing has briefed New Delhi on the aircraft, shortly after the Indian Air Force canceled its tanker tender for which the Airbus A330 MRTT had been selected.
