Indian Navy returns from European exercises

Four ships of the Indian Navy that had been deployed for exercises in European waters since May, have returned home. This was the first time the joint Indo-British naval exercise Konkan and the joint Indo-French naval exercise Varuna have been conducted outside Indian waters. Images inside.

Indian Navy on extensive western deployment

A squadron of four ships is on an extensive tour of ports in the Arabian Sea, Red Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic Ocean, North Sea and the Baltic Sea. The ships will also conduct major exercises with Russia, the UK and France.

French Naval Rafales grounded by virus

French newspaper Liberation reported the virus to have infected the French Navy’s databases leaving the Rafales ‘nailed to the ground’ on January 15 and 16 this year. The Dassault aircraft Rafale is one of the six contenders for the 126 MMRCA tender issued by IAF.

Sailor says shipping cos endangering crew to cut costs

Reports of piracy are suppressed because shipping companies would not like this route to be perceived to be too dangerous as this would drive up their insurance costs and force them to either go around the Cape of Good Hope or cross the Pacific Ocean as well as cause them problems in recruiting crews and shipping companies put their own ships at risk by refusing to be escorted by international naval ships in convoys because of additional costs and delays.
