Who you are
Are you familiar with online journalism, social media, blogging? Do you know WordPress?
Can you tell your Herons from your Searchers or distinguish a T-72 from a T-90? Do you know which defense companies are collaborating on optionally-piloted rotary UAVs? Is your bedside reading usually military/strategic history? Are you still following the Great Game?
Do you have a robust grounding in these domains? Are you demonstrably interested in military and strategic international affairs? Does defense technology excite you?
Can you spot the historical or technical inaccuracies in war movies?
If the answers to the above are mostly yes, can you bring to the table basic sub-editing skills? Do you know how to edit images or videos and can you produce infographics?
Can you figure out the news points from the dreariest of press conferences?
Have you done any of this before and have you had any training in journalism tradecraft? Are you articulate and do you derive pleasure from writing after doing an insane amount of research?
Do you like telling stories?
Again, if mostly yes, then here’s what you’ll have to do.
Report on the ongoing news stories in the defense and strategic arena, spot possibilities for news and analysis packages and be able to generate ideas for enterprise reporting.
Blog on news and current events to provide context, perspective and a better understanding on the meaning of the event. This will include original reporting and analytical content.
Style copy to include value additions for comprehensive narratives.
And tweet.
Like the idea of getting paid to do all this? Couple of things, more.
You have to live in or around the Delhi region, working from wherever you are, and should have constant access to the internet.
Don’t be surprised if you have to file a story from your phone.
So if you think this works for you, write to SaurabhJoshi@StratPost.com, explaining why you’d be a good fit. Look forward to hearing from you.
