Indian PM to visit Sri Lanka

Colombo: Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is to visit Sri Lanka, the Sunday Times reported.

This emerged after Indian National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa Saturday.

Menon, who is part of a high-powered Indian delegation which arrived in Sri Lanka Friday, delivered the news to Rajapaksa through a letter stating Manmohan Singh’s intent, the Times said.

The Indian delegation also included Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao, a former Indian high commissioner to Colombo, and Defense Secretary Pradeep Kumar.

The president’s media adviser, Bandula Jayasekera, was quoted as saying that a date for the Indian leader’s visit would be decided after further discussion between the two countries.

Sri Lankans have often complained that Indian leaders rarely visit Colombo despite the many trips made to New Delhi by their leaders.
