MEA’s planned outlay doubles

This is the central plan segment of the MEA’s total expenditure, which is budgeted to be INR 11719 crore after last weeks budget announcement. Bhutan remains far ahead of Afghanistan as India’s largest beneficiary of foreign aid.

Why blacklisting doesn’t work

Blacklisting is the politician’s response to cop out of responsibility for ensuring a corruption free defense acquisition process, that serves no purpose for either the Indian armed forces or the taxpayer, and is effectively the application of rules that govern the PWD (Public Works Department).

Already, the ministry has been reported to have indicated it cannot move on the procurement as the matter is sub judice. At the same time, it has not decided the issue either, as is evident from the observations of the court. This has held up the acquisition of crucial types of artillery again, after the multiple cancellation of tenders since the Bofors buy.

The US offer of information on the F-35 to India in a report made to the country’s Senate Armed Services Committee comes curiously on the eve of the opening of the commercial bids of the IAF’s MMRCA competition.

Pricey time to open MMRCA quotes
